Family Support Worker - Accommodation
Location: Heathcote Building - office based initially
Salary: 27,239 FTE
Hours: 37 hours per week
Contract: Temporary for an initial 3 months, with a view to becoming permanent
Working Arrangement: Office based during probation, with the opportunity to work from home 1-2 days per week following successful completion of probation


About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and compassionate Family Support Worker to join an accommodation-based domestic abuse service.
This is an opportunity to support women and children who have experienced domestic abuse, helping them to move towards safe and independent living.
You will provide risk-assessed, strength-based and needs-led support, working closely with families throughout their journey. This will include developing individual and family safety plans, providing practical and emotional support, and advocating on behalf of women and children with other agencies.
Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality casework support to women and children affected by domestic abuse.
  • Manage a varied caseload, prioritising work effectively and responding to changing needs.
  • Develop individual and family support plans and personal safety plans.
  • Carry out risk and needs assessments, including Teen DASH RIC where appropriate.
  • Advocate for women and children with agencies including MARAC, courts, housing, social care, health and voluntary/community organisations.
  • Support women to understand the impact of domestic abuse on their children and strengthen parent/child relationships.
  • Provide practical support around parenting, challenging behaviour, schools, nurseries and other services.
  • Plan and deliver creative sessions for children and young people around domestic abuse, health and emotional wellbeing.
  • Develop and deliver therapeutic group work for children and their mothers.
  • Support families to access appropriate community-based services.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential and detailed case records.
  • Attend case reviews, team meetings and multi-agency meetings as required.
  • Contribute to service outcomes, monitoring and reporting.
  • Support the delivery of the service in line with relevant policies, procedures and contractual requirements.
  • Undertake relevant housing management duties, including rent/service charge support, property checks, licence agreements, maintenance reporting and move-on/exit paperwork.
  • Promote safeguarding and ensure the safety and confidentiality of service users.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams, statutory services and external partners.

About You
We are looking for someone who has experience supporting vulnerable adults and/or children, ideally within a domestic abuse, accommodation, safeguarding or support setting.
You will need:

  • Experience of working with women and/or children affected by domestic abuse.
  • Experience of supporting vulnerable children on a one-to-one basis and/or vulnerable adults.
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced environment, managing and prioritising your own workload.
  • Experience of working effectively as part of a team.
  • An understanding of domestic abuse and its impact on women, children and families.
  • An understanding of the role of women's refuge/accommodation services and the importance of maintaining a safe and confidential environment.
  • Good knowledge of safeguarding for both adults and children.
  • An understanding of the practical, emotional, social and economic issues affecting children and families experiencing domestic abuse.
  • The ability to manage your own caseload and work effectively under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work sensitively and in a non-judgemental way with vulnerable survivors.
  • The ability to maintain accurate and detailed case notes.
  • The ability to work effectively with multi-agency partners.
  • Confidence using IT systems including Microsoft Office/Microsoft 365.

Knowledge of issues including homelessness, substance misuse, mental health and offending, as well as the impact of psychological trauma on behaviour, would also be desirable.
Qualifications & Requirements

  • Relevant safeguarding training or qualification relating to adults and children.
  • Women's Aid or SafeLives training such as DAPA, IDVA or YPVA would be desirable.
  • Enhanced DBS required.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle, insured for business use, is essential.

This role is open to women only under the Equality Act 2010, Schedule 9, Part 1.
