Deputy Manager - Children's Residential Care
Location: Milton Keynes
Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 per year
Hours: 40 hours per week
About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced and motivated Deputy Manager to support the Registered Manager with the day-to-day leadership and management of a children's residential home in Milton Keynes.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring children and young people receive safe, nurturing and high-quality residential childcare, particularly those with emotional, behavioural and complex needs.
They will support the Registered Manager with safeguarding, staff management, regulatory compliance and quality assurance, helping create a positive environment where children and young people can thrive and achieve positive outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Registered Manager with the effective day-to-day running of the children's home.
- Deputise for the Registered Manager in their absence.
- Lead, motivate, supervise and develop the residential care team.
- Lead shifts and oversee staffing levels and rotas.
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.
- Ensure high-quality, child-centred care is provided in line with individual care plans.
- Support care planning, risk assessments and behaviour support plans.
- Promote positive behaviour and support young people with challenging or complex needs.
- Maintain accurate records, reports and documentation.
- Ensure safeguarding procedures, policies and regulatory requirements are followed.
- Support compliance with the Children's Homes Regulations 2015 and Ofsted requirements.
- Contribute to audits, quality assurance and continuous service improvement.
- Build effective relationships with families, social workers, local authorities and other professionals.
- Participate in the management on-call rota and work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.
About You
The successful Deputy Manager will have:
- Previous experience as a Senior Residential Support Worker, Team Leader, Deputy Manager or similar leadership role within children's residential care.
- A Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare / Children & Young People, or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding and child protection.
- Experience managing safeguarding concerns, risk and challenging situations.
- Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills.
- The ability to lead, motivate and support a residential care team.
- A genuine passion for improving outcomes for children and young people.
- Good IT, administration, recording and report-writing skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare, or willingness to work towards it.
- Experience supporting children and young people with emotional, behavioural or complex needs.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care or Positive Behaviour Support (PBS).
- Experience with staff supervision, mentoring and professional development.
- Experience supporting Ofsted inspections, audits or quality assurance.
