We're looking for a dedicated Support Worker to join our friendly and supportive service in Retford, helping young people develop the confidence, resilience and independence needed for adult life.

Role overview

As a Young People's Support Worker, you'll support young people living semi-independently to develop life skills, achieve personal goals and move successfully into permanent accommodation. You'll act as a positive role model, mentor and advocate, helping young people make informed choices and overcome barriers to reaching their potential.

Key responsibilities

  • In this role every day can be different, but parts of your day may look like:
  • Supporting young people to develop independence, confidence and life skills.
  • Developing, implementing and reviewing individual support plans and risk assessments.
  • Helping young people access education, employment and training opportunities.
  • Supporting with daily living activities, including budgeting, managing bills, cooking and household responsibilities.
  • Encouraging participation in leisure activities and engagement within the local community.
  • Working collaboratively with external agencies and support networks.
  • Advocating for young people and work closely with external agencies and professionals.
  • Maintaining accurate records and contribute to safeguarding responsibilities.
  • Promoting a safe, positive and supportive environment for young people and colleagues.

Working pattern

This is a 37-hour role working on a rota basis across seven days, including weekends and bank holidays; so, flexibility is key. Typical shifts are 07:00-14:30, 08:00-15:30 and 14:30-22:00.

A driving licence and access to a vehicle would be highly desirable.

Ideal candidate

We're looking for someone who is compassionate, resilient and motivated by helping young people succeed. Change can sometimes be hard so you could face behaviours that challenge, your patient and assertive nature will make sure this doesn't escalate and make sure there are positive outcomes consistently.

You'll have experience of working with young people, either professionally or in a voluntary capacity, alongside an understanding of the challenges they may face. You'll be a confident communicator who can build positive relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.

You'll also have:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Basic IT skills and the ability to maintain accurate records.
  • The ability to manage challenging situations calmly and professionally.
  • A positive attitude and a proactive approach to supporting others.
  • A genuine commitment to helping young people achieve their potential.
  • Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker Qualification
  • You must either already hold a Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker qualification, be actively working towards it, or be willing and able to achieve it as part of your employment.

If you need to complete the qualification through an apprenticeship, you must meet the apprenticeship eligibility requirements, including having lived in the UK for at least 3 years prior to starting, having sufficient right to work in the UK for the duration of the programme, and not currently being enrolled on another course of study.
