We are currently working with a prestigious, government-backed defence organisation in the Presteigne area to recruit a Laboratory Manufacturing Technician, to support existing and forthcoming projects.

This is a great opportunity for a motivated and inquisitive person who wants to work within the defence industry, within an expanding and forward-thinking business

This role will expose you to a wide range of technical challenges across multiple skill sets. A degree is desirable, but relevant work experience and motivation are more than acceptable as full training for the role will be provided.

Working within a small team and reporting to the Principal Chemist this varied role is suitable for an experienced technician or process operative with experience within a manufacturing, chemical, or engineering environment.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Undertaking processes following written operating procedures, risk assessment and COSHH documentation in accordance with ISO9001 and HSE requirements.
  • Working alongside members of the chemistry team to achieve efficient and on-time delivery of project milestones.
  • Production of energetic formulations using techniques including pressing, casting, resonant acoustic mixing (RAM) and planetary mixing.
  • Operation of process equipment and plant in a safe and methodical system of work.
  • Small scale hazard testing of energetic materials.
  • Operation of both the Isostatic and uniaxial pressing equipment.
  • Some operation of test equipment and apparatus as required, including chemical analysis.
  • Other operations and training as required by business needs.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • A-level or NVQ Level 3 in appropriate subjects with commensurate experience within a chemical/scientific manufacturing role.
  • You will have a proven background within the manufacturing or chemical sectors.
  • Experience of working with and handling hazardous materials in a laboratory or chemical production environment.
  • You may be from a machine operating background, where you have set up, stripped, cleaned and reassembled equipment.
  • An aptitude for understanding and adhering to detailed manufacturing processes and safety protocols.
  • A detail-oriented and reliable approach, with the drive to take initiative and achieve high-quality results.
  • Ability to carry out both repeat production and varied one off types of work
  • Health and Safety conscious, with a strong focus on maintaining the highest standards within the workplace.

Opportunity:

An exciting opportunity has been created due to company growth. My client a global pharmaceutical manufacturing company are looking to recruit a Production Manufacturing Technician based in Swindon where you will be working in a GMP clean room manufacturing environment making drug products / compounding as allocated on the production planning system to cGMP, current pharmaceutical regulations, whilst adhering to EH&S requirements.

The hours of work are:

7:00 am to 7:00 pm / 7:00 pm to 7:00 am / 2 days / 2 nights then 4 days off.

Day to day duties include:

  • Accurately complete documentation related to the Encapsulation process.
  • Operate and maintain up to two Encapsulation Machines (and covers up to as many as four during breaks).
  • Maintaining a clean work area.
  • Performing in-process checks and evaluating in detail, product quality.
  • Monitoring material and gel usage at the machine and change receivers as needed ensuring that components are not used past expiration date and time.
  • Monitoring encapsulation process to minimize rejected product at the machine.
  • Tearing down machine at changeover.
  • Setting-up/assembling Encapsulation Machine for operation per batch record instructions.
  • Troubleshooting equipment to maintain a quality product.
  • Monitoring and replenishing solvents and lubricants as required.
  • Stock control and replenishment.
  • Packaging and labelling.

This is a 3 months contract based in Swindon which will be reviewed for a possible extension or go permanent but this is all dependent on the candidate and business performance.

The PAYE rate £13.90 per hour.

Skills:

Key tasks include:

  • Disinfection and assembly of raw materials.
  • Identifying and reporting any defects in equipment and materials.
  • Integrity and stock content checks.
  • Stock level monitoring and rotation.
  • Adhere to all SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
  • Work to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice)
  • Ensure all documentation is completed in line with strict process procedures.
  • Maintaining strict hygiene in all support areas to GMP standards.

The Person - Skills and Qualities Required

Applicants must be logical and able to work systematically in a consistent way, ideally having demonstrated this ability in a fast-paced working environment.

In addition, you will need good oral and written communication skills in English, be methodical in approach, able to demonstrate close attention to detail, and able to concentrate for long periods of time. An appreciation of customer needs and experience working as part of a busy team to meet tight deadlines without losing focus is also essential.

A background in a busy production or warehouse role is desirable but by no means essential.

Hours of work are 9:30 - 18:00, Monday to Friday with 45 minutes for lunch. There is also a requirement to work some contracted Saturdays throughout the year. Due to the line of work and patients awaiting treatments, there may be occasions where you will stay beyond the contracted finish time to complete the work orders for the day. Whether that is a supply of Parenteral Nutrition or Chemotherapy, it is vital for patients to receive this on the day it is required.
