Support Workers / Healthcare Assistants (HCA)

Location: Cumbria Carlisle, Workington, Whitehaven, Cockermouth, Penrith, Kendal and surrounding areas.

Job Type: Flexible / Ad-hoc / Temporary Agency Shifts.

Sector: Care Homes, Nursing Homes and Residential Care.

About the Role

We are currently recruiting experienced Support Workers and Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) to work across a range of care homes, nursing homes and residential settings throughout Cumbria.

We are looking for compassionate, reliable and dedicated care professionals with previous UK experience supporting adults with varying care needs. You will provide personal care, assist with daily living activities and ensure residents receive safe, respectful and person-centred support.

Flexible opportunities are available, including day shifts, night shifts, weekends and ad-hoc bookings, subject to client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

You will provide personal care, including washing, bathing, dressing, grooming and toileting. You will assist residents with mobility, repositioning and the safe use of moving and handling equipment.

You will support residents with meals, feeding and hydration, promote independence and dignity, monitor general wellbeing and report any changes in physical or mental health.

You will follow individual care plans and risk assessments, maintain accurate care records and handover notes, and work alongside colleagues and other healthcare professionals.

You may also support individuals living with dementia, learning disabilities, physical disabilities and complex care needs. Medication must only be administered where you are trained, competent and authorised to do so.

You must follow safeguarding, infection prevention and control procedures and maintain professional standards at all times.

Essential Requirements

Candidates must have a minimum of 6 months' recent UK experience working as a Support Worker or Healthcare Assistant within a care home, nursing home or residential care setting.

You must have hands-on experience providing personal care and supporting adults with daily living activities.

Practical Moving and Handling training and a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) or appropriate emergency first aid certificate are required.

You must have an understanding of adult safeguarding, infection control, confidentiality and person-centred care.

Good written and verbal English communication skills are essential, together with the ability to follow care plans, maintain accurate records and work effectively as part of a team.

Candidates must demonstrate reliability, professionalism, compassion and good timekeeping.

You must have valid permission to work in the UK, be able to provide satisfactory professional references and be willing to undertake the appropriate DBS checks.

Desirable Experience

Experience in elderly care, dementia care, nursing homes or residential care is advantageous.

Experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities, mental health needs, complex physical needs or palliative and end-of-life care would be beneficial.

Experience using hoists, slide sheets and other moving and handling equipment is desirable.

Medication administration training and an NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Health and Social Care, or an equivalent qualification, would also be advantageous.

What We Offer

Flexible agency shifts across Cumbria, with opportunities in care homes, nursing homes and residential settings.

Day, night and weekend shifts, subject to availability, with opportunities to pick up additional work.

Support from a dedicated recruitment team throughout the registration process.

If you have at least 6 months' UK experience working as a Support Worker or Healthcare Assistant within a care home, nursing home or residential setting, we would love to hear from you.

Please submit your CV. A member of our recruitment team will contact suitable applicants to discuss their experience, availability and registration requirements.
