Clinical Data Manager

Cambridge

Permanent £48000.00 - £48000.00 Annual

Data ManagerLocation: Cambridge (Hybrid, 2 days in the office)
Salary: 40,000 to 48,000
Contract: Permanent, full-time
I'm working with an innovative life sciences and clinical research technology business based just outside Cambridge that is looking to bring on a Data Manager to join its growing Data Management team.
The business develops digital technologies and assessments used in clinical trials, helping researchers better understand patient symptoms and supporting the development of new treatments. With an established presence internationally and over 30 years of scientific expertise behind its work, this is an opportunity to join an organisation where data quality directly contributes to clinical research and healthcare outcomes.
The RoleYou'll take ownership of data management activities across a portfolio of clinical studies, working from study initiation through to database lock and final data transfer. Alongside the technical responsibilities, you'll act as a key point of contact for clients, ensuring data quality, transparency and reliable delivery throughout the study lifecycle.
This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys getting into the detail of data, investigating discrepancies and improving existing processes, rather than simply following established procedures. The team is particularly interested in someone who is curious about new technologies, including AI, and is keen to identify more efficient and effective ways of working.
Key Responsibilities

  • Manage clinical data activities across multiple studies, from initial setup through to database lock and final data delivery.
  • Act as the primary data management contact for clients, building strong relationships and communicating progress, risks and priorities.
  • Develop and maintain Data Management Plans, Data Transfer Agreements and documentation in line with GCP requirements.
  • Undertake data cleaning, query management and reconciliation, investigating discrepancies and ensuring data integrity.
  • Configure, test and manage data transfers, including developing production code and quality control processes.
  • Produce bespoke client reports and data extracts using ETL tools.
  • Estimate project timelines and costs, managing deliverables against agreed SLAs.
  • Support audits and regulatory inspections, ensuring data management processes and documentation meet the required standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve existing SOPs, workflows and data management practices.
  • Collaborate with clinical scientists, statisticians, project managers and external stakeholders to ensure successful study delivery.
What They're Looking For
  • Experience in a Clinical Data Manager, Clinical Data Coordinator or similar role within a clinical trial environment.
  • Practical experience using Electronic Data Capture (EDC) systems.
  • Understanding of ICH-GCP principles and clinical data management practices.
  • Basic programming skills in Python, SQL, SAS, R or a similar language.
  • An interest in using AI to support data analysis and improve workflows, alongside the ability to learn new tools quickly.
  • An understanding of clinical trials and the drug development lifecycle, or a genuine interest in clinical research.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking and root-cause investigation skills.
  • Experience maintaining data quality records and documentation to GCP standards.
  • The ability to manage multiple studies, competing deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence working directly with clients.
  • A proactive mindset, with the confidence to challenge existing processes and suggest improvements.
A relevant degree in life sciences, mathematics or a related discipline would be beneficial but isn't essential. The client is equally interested in candidates who have developed their expertise through practical experience.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience experimenting with AI tools or vibe coding.
  • Version control experience, such as Git.
  • Knowledge of CDISC standards, including SDTM and ADaM.
  • Familiarity with FDA and MHRA requirements, sponsor audits or regulatory inspections.
  • SCDM certification.
What's on Offer?
  • 40,000 to 48,000 salary, depending on experience.
  • Permanent, full-time position.
  • Hybrid working, with approximately 2 days per week in the office near Cambridge and the remainder from home.
  • 26 days' annual leave plus bank holidays, including a Christmas shutdown allowance, with a holiday buy/sell scheme.
  • Employer pension contributions of up to 6.5%.
  • Life assurance at four times base salary.
  • Private medical insurance through Bupa and a Medicash cashback scheme.
  • Employee Assistance Programme.
  • The opportunity to contribute to clinical research and technologies that support the development of new treatments.
Interested? If you're a Clinical Data Manager or Data Coordinator looking for a role where you can take ownership, develop your technical skills and have a genuine impact on data quality and clinical research, I'd be keen to hear from you.
