About the Role of Residential Support Worker
As a Residential Support Worker, you'll be part of a dedicated team supporting children with a range of complex needs to build resilience, form positive relationships, and reach their full potential. Every shift is a chance to offer stability, encouragement, and positive role modelling.
This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week, paying £13.50 per hour. Being a Residential Support Worker a rewarding but responsible role, and we welcome applications from experienced practitioners as well as those new to residential childcare who can demonstrate the right values and potential. There are genuine opportunities to grow within the role, including key working, mentoring colleagues, and leading shifts.
What You'll Be Doing as a Residential Support Worker
- Providing high-quality, child-centred care that promotes safety, stability and wellbeing
- Building positive, trusting relationships with children while maintaining professional boundaries
- Supporting children with daily routines, education, activities, health appointments and life skills
- Following care plans, risk assessments and behaviour support strategies
- Acting as a key worker for allocated children, taking responsibility for care planning and outcomes
- Maintaining accurate, timely records and contributing to reviews
- Working collaboratively with colleagues, and leading shifts when required
- Engaging respectfully with families, social workers and other professionals
- Working towards your Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (if not already achieved)
What We're Looking For
Essential for Residential Support Worker:
- A genuine motivation to work with children and make a positive difference
- Willingness to work towards the Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare within two years
- Ability to build appropriate relationships while maintaining professional boundaries
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Emotional resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure
- Willingness to work flexibly, including shifts, weekends and sleep-ins
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
- An enhanced DBS check valid for working with children (or willingness to obtain one)
Desirable for Residential Support Worker:
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
- Experience working with children or young people in any setting
- Experience within a regulated care environment Full UK driving licence
