Residential Support Worker - Bank Staff

Locations: Erith, Kent (DA8) or Abbey Wood, London (SE2)

Pay: £14.50-£15.00 per hour

Hours: Full-time and Part-time opportunities available

Shift Pattern: 12-hour day and night shifts

Minimum Commitment: Two shifts per week

About the Role:

An excellent opportunity is available for a Residential Support Worker - Bank Staff to join a specialist children's residential care setting in Erith or Abbey Wood.

The role is ideal for a compassionate and dedicated Residential Support Worker, Children's Support Worker or Residential Childcare Practitioner who is passionate about supporting children and young people and helping them achieve positive outcomes.

Working within a children's home, you will provide high-quality, person-centred care and support, helping to create a safe, stable, nurturing and supportive environment.

You will support the emotional, social, behavioural and developmental needs of children and young people, promote independence and provide consistent support based on their individual needs, care plans and risk assessments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide high-quality care, support and supervision to children and young people within a residential childcare setting.
• Create and maintain a safe, nurturing and positive children's home environment.
• Support children and young people with their emotional, behavioural, social and developmental needs.
• Build positive, trusting and professional relationships with children and young people.
• Act as a positive role model and promote independence, confidence and life skills.
• Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people at all times.
• Follow safeguarding and child protection procedures and report any concerns appropriately.
• Provide appropriate behavioural and emotional support, including responding calmly to challenging or distressed behaviour.
• Support children with daily routines, activities, education, appointments and community activities.
• Work in line with individual care plans, placement plans and risk assessments.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, daily logs, reports and other relevant documentation.
• Work collaboratively with families, social workers, education professionals and other external agencies.
• Participate in key working, team meetings, supervision and training.
• Follow organisational policies, procedures and relevant children's residential care regulations and standards.
• Promote positive outcomes for children and young people and support their individual development.

Requirements:

• Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or equivalent, or willingness to work towards the qualification.
• Previous experience supporting children or young people within residential childcare, a children's home, care, education, youth work or a similar setting is desirable.
• A good understanding of safeguarding, child protection and the needs of children and young people.
• Understanding of trauma-informed care/practice, attachment and child development would be advantageous.
• Experience supporting children or young people with emotional or behavioural needs would be beneficial.
• Compassionate, patient, resilient and non-judgemental approach.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build positive professional relationships with children, young people and colleagues.
• Ability to remain calm and professional when managing challenging behaviour or difficult situations.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Reliable, flexible and committed approach to shift work.
• Full UK driving licence.
