Think FE are recruiting an Occupational Health Advisor to join a well-established further education college in Durham on a part-time basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified Occupational Health professional who is looking for an autonomous role where they can make a genuine contribution to employee health, wellbeing and attendance across a diverse organisation.

Working as part of the college's wider HR and corporate services function, you will provide a comprehensive and confidential Occupational Health service to staff, supporting both physical and mental wellbeing while providing professional advice to employees and managers.
The role As Occupational Health Advisor, you will manage a varied caseload and provide specialist guidance across a range of occupational health matters. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Undertaking pre-employment and initial health assessments to establish fitness for work and identify appropriate support.
  • Managing Occupational Health referrals and providing advice in relation to sickness absence and complex case management.
  • Supporting employees returning to work following periods of ill health, working closely with HR and line managers.
  • Monitoring employee health following sickness, injury or exposure to workplace hazards.
  • Providing confidential health advice and signposting employees to appropriate external professionals and services where required.
  • Undertaking and supporting health surveillance, including audiometry and spirometry.
  • Advising managers and employees on occupational health, wellbeing and relevant health and safety matters.
  • Developing effective relationships with GPs and other external healthcare professionals.
  • Contributing to Occupational Health policies, procedures and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Providing management information and reports relating to Occupational Health activity.
  • Providing support and line management to the college's Occupational Health Technician.

You will have the opportunity to work with a high level of professional autonomy while still being part of a supportive wider organisation.
About you To be considered for this role, you will need to be a Registered Nurse and hold a recognised Occupational Health qualification.
You should also have:
  • Experience working within Occupational Health.
  • Experience managing complex Occupational Health cases.
  • The confidence and ability to work in a stand-alone or autonomous capacity.
  • Competence in undertaking audiometry and spirometry.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong record-keeping and organisational skills.
  • The ability to handle sensitive and confidential information professionally.
  • Good IT and digital skills.
  • A methodical, detail-focused approach with the ability to manage competing priorities.

Experience working within Occupational Health outside of a hospital environment would be particularly beneficial, although candidates currently working within the NHS are also encouraged to apply.
Experience using Cority Occupational Health software, managing staff within an Occupational Health setting or holding a First Aid at Work qualification would also be advantageous.

Salary and working pattern The full-time salary for the position is £43,377 - £44,783 per annum, with the salary pro-rated to the agreed 18.5-hour working week.

As 18.5 hours represents 50% of the college's 37-hour full-time week, this equates to approximately £21,688.50 - £22,391.50 per annum for the part-time hours.

The role also attracts a £6,000 FTE Market Rate Supplement, pro rata to approximately £3,000 per annum, which is subject to biennial review.
The specific working days and hours will be agreed and confirmed.
