Residential Support Worker - Children's Residential Home

Location: Newhaven, East Sussex
Salary: Starting from 28,000 per annum

Prospero Health & Social Care is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Residential Support Worker to join a children's residential home in Newhaven, East Sussex.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of children and young people. The successful candidate will play an important role in providing safe, nurturing, and child-centred care, helping young people develop confidence, independence, and the skills they need to thrive.

Working as part of a dedicated residential team, you will build positive and trusting relationships with children and young people, providing emotional and practical support while helping to create a stable and therapeutic home environment. You will work alongside senior staff and the Registered Manager to ensure care is delivered to a high standard and in line with the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards.

Your role will involve supporting young people with their daily routines, education, appointments, hobbies, and community activities, while encouraging independence and promoting positive emotional wellbeing. You will provide consistent support, act as a positive role model, and help young people feel safe, respected, and valued.

Safeguarding is at the heart of this role. You will be responsible for promoting the welfare of children and young people, recognising concerns, following safeguarding procedures, maintaining professional boundaries, and reporting any issues promptly to senior members of the team.

You will also support the implementation of individual care plans, risk assessments, and behaviour support strategies, helping young people achieve their personal goals and develop essential life skills. Accurate record keeping, effective communication during handovers, and contributing positively to team meetings and reflective practice will also be key aspects of the role.

Requirements

  • Starting salary of 28,000 per annum.
  • Experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals (paid or voluntary).
  • Ideally hold a Level 3 qualification in Children's Residential Care or be willing to complete this.
  • Experience supporting children with trauma, SEMH needs, or challenging behaviours is desirable.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A willingness to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, sleep-ins, and Bank Holidays.
  • Must hold a full UK driving licence.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone looking to build a career in children's residential care and make a meaningful impact on the lives of young people.
