Job Purpose

The Experienced Social Worker will provide high-quality social work services to children and young people with disabilities and their families. The post holder will undertake statutory assessments, safeguard children, coordinate multi-agency support, and ensure children with complex needs receive appropriate services to maximise their wellbeing, development, and independence. The role requires skilled assessment, effective partnership working, and a commitment to promoting the voice of the child.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a complex caseload of children and young people with disabilities, including those who are Children in Need, subject to Child Protection Plans, Looked After Children, or involved in care proceedings.
  • Undertake comprehensive Child and Family Assessments in accordance with statutory guidance and organisational procedures.
  • Assess children's developmental needs, parenting capacity, family functioning, and environmental factors.
  • Complete specialist assessments relating to disability, including assessments for short breaks, specialist services, equipment, and support packages.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and review Child in Need, Child Protection, Looked After Children, and Care Plans.
  • Undertake safeguarding enquiries, including Section 47 investigations where required.
  • Prepare high-quality reports for child protection conferences, reviews, legal planning meetings, and court proceedings.
  • Represent Children's Services in court and provide professional evidence when necessary.
  • Work in partnership with parents, carers, schools, health professionals, occupational therapists, psychologists, and voluntary sector organisations.
  • Promote direct work with children using communication methods appropriate to their age, disability, and level of understanding.
  • Advocate for children's rights, ensuring their wishes and feelings inform assessment and planning.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and analytical case recordings using the local authority's electronic recording system.
  • Participate in duty arrangements and respond promptly to safeguarding concerns.
  • Support less experienced social workers, students, and newly qualified colleagues where appropriate.
