Behaviour Support Assistant (Supply) - Secondary Schools

We are working in partnership with secondary schools across Newcastle to recruit Behaviour Support Assistants for the summer term.
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people with behavioural, emotional, and social needs, helping them to engage positively with learning and school life.
About the Role
You will work with pupils across Key Stages 3 and 4, providing targeted behaviour support in a range of settings, including classrooms, intervention spaces, and alternative provision.
Key responsibilities include:
Providing 1:1 and small group behaviour support
Supporting students with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, or additional barriers to learning
Implementing behaviour management strategies and individual support plans
Assisting with de-escalation and emotional regulation techniques
Collaborating with teaching, pastoral, and SEN teams
Monitoring and reporting on student engagement and progress
Promoting a safe, calm, and inclusive learning environment
About You
Essential:
Experience working with children or young people (e.g. education, youth work, care settings)
Strong communication and behaviour management skills
A calm, resilient, and adaptable approach
Ability to build positive and trusting relationships
Desirable:
Experience within a UK secondary school or SEMH setting
Knowledge of behaviour support strategies or trauma-informed practice
Team Teach or positive handling training
Relevant qualifications (e.g. Youth Work, Psychology, Education)
