Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT)

TimePlan Education - Independent SEN School - Chelsea, West London

Location: Chelsea, West London
Role: Speech and Language Therapist
Age Group: 4-11 years
Caseload: Approximately 15-18 pupils

About the School

TimePlan Education is working in partnership with an outstanding independent special school in Chelsea, West London, which caters for pupils aged 4-11 with mild to moderate and complex learning needs.

The school is part of a well-established group of independent educational settings and prides itself on taking a creative and individualised approach to education. Staff work collaboratively to ensure every pupil receives the support, encouragement and specialist provision they need to reach their full potential.

The school has a strong focus on understanding individual learning profiles and providing tailored educational and therapeutic support within a nurturing environment.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT) to join the school's specialist team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified therapist to take responsibility for a caseload of approximately 15-18 pupils, all of whom have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

The successful candidate will provide specialist Speech and Language Therapy to pupils with a range of communication and interaction needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), global developmental delay and other complex learning needs.

A significant part of the role will involve assessing pupils, planning and delivering individual and group therapy programmes, monitoring progress and ensuring therapeutic strategies are embedded throughout the school day.

Importantly, all pupils on the caseload have EHCPs, so the successful candidate must be confident contributing to EHCP documentation and attending Annual Review meetings. They will need to explain pupils' speech, language and communication needs, progress, targets and recommended provision clearly to parents, carers, teaching staff and other professionals.

The current caseload requires a high level of therapeutic input and support, so the school is looking for someone with strong paediatric SEN experience who can confidently manage the demands of the role and provide consistent, effective support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of approximately 15-18 pupils with a range of speech, language and communication needs.

  • Complete comprehensive assessments to identify individual communication needs and establish appropriate therapy targets.

  • Plan, deliver and evaluate evidence-based 1:1 and group therapy programmes.

  • Support the development of receptive and expressive language, attention and listening, social communication and AAC where appropriate.

  • Contribute to the preparation, development and review of pupils' EHCPs.

  • Prepare detailed reports and provide professional recommendations for EHCP Annual Reviews.

  • Attend and confidently contribute to Annual Review meetings, explaining pupils' needs, progress, outcomes and recommended provision.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, teaching assistants, parents, carers and external professionals.

  • Provide training and guidance to school staff to help embed speech and language strategies into everyday classroom practice.

  • Develop individualised therapy programmes and ensure interventions are regularly reviewed and adapted.

  • Maintain accurate records, assessments and progress reports.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, clinical supervision and professional development.

  • Support safeguarding and contribute positively to wider school life.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • HCPC-registered Speech and Language Therapist.

  • Relevant qualification in Speech and Language Therapy.

  • Strong experience working within paediatric Speech and Language Therapy.

  • Experience supporting children with SEN, including ASD, global developmental delay and complex communication needs.

  • Experience managing a caseload independently or with appropriate clinical support.

  • Experience contributing to EHCPs and writing or reviewing speech and language recommendations.

  • Confidence attending and contributing to EHCP Annual Review meetings, explaining clinical information to parents, carers and other professionals.

  • Ability to assess individual needs and develop appropriate therapy programmes.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • A strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection, health and safety and risk management.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience working as a Speech and Language Therapist within a specialist school or SEN setting.

  • Experience managing a caseload of children with EHCPs.

  • Experience implementing behavioural support strategies.

  • Experience developing structured care and therapy plans based on best practice.

  • Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Experience delivering training and advice to teaching staff.

  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and reflective practice.

The Ideal Candidate

The school is looking for a proactive, confident and experienced Speech and Language Therapist who can take ownership of a busy caseload and provide a high level of support to pupils with additional needs.

You must be confident not only in delivering therapy but also in the wider clinical responsibilities of the role, particularly EHCP contributions, report writing and explaining progress and recommendations during Annual Review meetings.

This is an excellent opportunity for a therapist who enjoys working in a specialist educational environment and wants to make a meaningful difference to children's communication, confidence and development.
