Hilary McKee, MSc IP MPSNI, Consultant Pharmacist at the Northern Health and Social Care Trust, highlights rheumatology as a specialty rich in opportunity, clinical development and patient impact.
Reflecting on her own journey, Ms McKee vividly remembers the first day she had her own clinic list - a pivotal moment that marked the transition into greater clinical autonomy and responsibility. For her, this experience encapsulated the growth and confidence that can come with specialising in rheumatology pharmacy.
The field offers pharmacists the chance to manage complex long-term conditions, work closely with multidisciplinary teams and develop expertise in advanced therapies, including biologics. It is a specialty that combines continuity of care with evolving treatment pathways, creating significant scope for professional progression.
