Apply Now

Evolve Staffing Ltd is actively recruiting compassionate, dependable, and experienced Band 2 Healthcare Assistants (HCA) to support acute hospital wards and clinical departments across prestigious NHS Hospital Trusts in Bristol and surrounding areas.

This role presents an outstanding opportunity for dedicated healthcare workers seeking flexible shift patterns, top-tier agency pay rates, and diverse clinical exposure within fast-paced NHS hospital environments. As a Band 2 HCA representing Evolve Staffing Ltd, you will work as an integral member of the multidisciplinary clinical team alongside Registered Nurses (RNs), ward sisters, and doctors. You will deliver high-quality, person-centred direct patient care, assist with vital physiological observations, uphold infection prevention control standards, and ensure patient comfort and safety across general medical, surgical, emergency, elderly care, and acute assessment wards.

Key Responsibilities & Clinical Duties

As a Band 2 Healthcare Assistant within an NHS hospital ward setting, your daily duties will include:

Direct Patient Care & Daily Living Support

  • Providing compassionate assistance with personal hygiene routines, including bed baths, showering, oral care, grooming, and pressure area care.

  • Assisting patients with mobility, repositioning, and transfers using safe moving and handling techniques and equipment (e.g., slide sheets, standing hoists, passive hoists).

  • Supporting patient nutrition and hydration by assisting with meal delivery, feeding assistance for dependent patients, preparing hot/cold drinks, and maintaining detailed fluid balance and food intake charts.

  • Assisting patients with elimination needs, catheter bag drainage, commode assistance, bedpan placement, and prompt incontinence care.

Clinical Support & Physiological Observations

  • Performing and accurately recording baseline physiological observations, including Blood Pressure, Pulse, Respiratory Rate, Body Temperature, Pulse Oximetry (Oxygen Saturation), and Blood Glucose levels using digital monitoring systems.

  • Calculating and recording National Early Warning Scores (NEWS2) to promptly recognize, report, and escalate clinical deterioration in patients to the nurse in charge.

  • Assisting qualified nursing staff with basic sterile dressings, simple wound checks, specimen collection (urine, stool, sputum samples), and urinalysis testing.

Ward Operations, Infection Control & Safeguarding

  • Maintaining strict adherence to NHS Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) guidelines, including hand hygiene, bare-below-the-elbows policies, and proper donning/doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

  • Ensuring ward cleanliness, sanitizing bed spaces between patient admissions/discharges, and keeping clinical equipment clean and ready for immediate use.

  • Maintaining accurate, contemporaneous nursing documentation, patient care charts, and participating in shift handovers.

  • Upholding patient dignity, privacy, confidentiality (Caldicott principles), and safeguarding vulnerable adults in line with NHS Trust governance.

Candidate Requirements & Qualifications

To qualify for this Band 2 NHS Hospital HCA role via Evolve Staffing Ltd, candidates must demonstrate:

  • Hospital Experience: Minimum of 6 months recent experience working as a Healthcare Assistant, Clinical Support Worker, or Nursing Auxiliary within an acute UK NHS Hospital Ward environment.

  • Qualifications: Care Certificate, NVQ / QCF Level 2 or Level 3 in Health and Social Care, or equivalent clinical support qualification is highly desirable.

  • Core Competencies: Proven practical proficiency in taking vital signs (NEWS2), manual handling/hoisting, infection control, and patient record keeping.

  • Compliance Standards:

    • Valid Right to Work in the United Kingdom.

    • Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate registered on the Update Service (or willing to apply for a new check).

    • Occupational health clearance, including immunity against Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Tuberculosis, and Varicella.

    • Practical certificates in Practical Moving & Handling and Basic Life Support (BLS) / Resuscitation.

    • Two satisfactory professional references covering the last 3 years of care employment.
