Autism and Epilepsy Support Worker

Apply Now

We have an exciting opportunity to join an established team supporting an individual within her own home and assisting her to access activities within her local community.

You will be working in a specialised 3:1 support package, providing care for a young lady with changing needs related to Autism, Epilepsy, and behaviours that may challenge.

First City are looking for confident and compassionate individuals to join the team.

Full specialist training is provided for all successful applicants, whether you have experience in care, supporting individuals with Autism, or no prior experience at all.

We are seeking candidates who are naturally passionate about care, reliable, take pride in their role, and are committed to promoting independence. You will work as part of a team, following an outcome-based support plan under the guidance of management.

We are seeking

  • Full Time
  • Part Time
  • Wake Nights / Sleep Nights
  • Bank

Shifts Available

  • Mornings: 7:00am - 3:00pm
  • Evenings: 3:00pm - 10:00pm
  • Nights (Wake/Sleep): 10:00pm - 7:00am
  • Long Days: 7:00am - 10:00pm

Rate of Pay

  • 13.45 per hour (sleep-in rate varies)

About the Role

Our customer has a great sense of humour and enjoys building rapport with her support team, so it's important you can have a laugh together. She is very social and enjoys activities such as visiting farms, going for walks, attending clubs, and spending time with her friendship circle. Supporting her to access a variety of activities is essential.

Her safety is always the top priority. At times, this may involve physical intervention to keep her safe, so the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team is crucial, as her behaviours can be unpredictable.

She also lives with Epilepsy. While seizures are not always frequent, there can be periods of seizure activity which may require rescue medication. You will need to be attentive and responsive to her needs

Communication is key, she uses unique signs and understanding this is essential for building trust.

She is largely independent with personal care but requires the support of two staff members during these times. She enjoys being pampered and loves all things girly and sparkly. Some prompting or direct support may be required.

The team prepares meals for safety reasons, though she enjoys being involved in meal preparation. Maintaining her home environment is also an important part of the role.

While this is an established team, her needs are evolving. Therefore, we are looking for adaptable individuals who can respond to change. Due to the specialist nature of this role, successful candidates must be willing to work in other areas of the business around Swindon if required.

Essential Requirements

  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including weekends
  • Strong team player
  • Minimum of 1 year's hands-on care experience

Desirable

  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to drive the customer's vehicle
  • Experience supporting individuals with Autism, Epilepsy, and behaviours that challenge

First City Benefits

  • Competitive salary
  • 28 days holiday (pro rata)
  • Paid comprehensive induction and shadow shifts
  • Free uniform
  • Ongoing industry-recognised training
  • Career progression opportunities
  • Additional company benefits (see website for more details)

All roles with First City are subject to satisfactory references, an enhanced DBS check, and completion of mandatory training.
