Key Duties and Responsibilities
Lead person-centred Occupational Therapy assessments for adults and older adults presenting with complex acute medical conditions, frailty, cognitive impairment, and physical functional decline.
Develop tailored therapeutic intervention programmes aimed at restoring independence, improving functional mobility, and optimizing activities of daily living (ADLs).
Conduct urgent environmental home assessments, equipment prescriptions, adaptation recommendations, and double-handed care reviews to support safe hospital discharges.
Work collaboratively alongside multidisciplinary hospital staff, social care teams, community therapy services, and family members to eliminate discharge delays and prevent avoidable readmissions.
Provide professional guidance, clinical supervision, and mentoring to junior Occupational Therapists (Band 5/6) and Therapy Assistants within the department.
Shift Timings and Pattern
This is a full-time locum assignment working standard NHS day shifts from 08:30am to 16:30pm, Monday through Friday (excluding bank holidays), totaling 37.5 hours per week.
Requirements and Qualifications
Valid registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as an Occupational Therapist.
BSc or MSc qualification in Occupational Therapy.
Significant post-qualification NHS experience as a Senior / Band 7 Occupational Therapist in general medicine, acute care, or frailty rehabilitation.
Advanced knowledge of equipment provision, local authority social care integration, and complex discharge planning pathways.
Full Right to Work in the UK alongside valid Enhanced DBS clearance and NHS compliance credentials.
