Young People Support Worker

Location: Cheltenham
Salary: 13.50 per hour + 50 per sleep-in
Job Type: Full-time
Shifts: Flexible shift pattern including evenings, weekends, bank holidays, and sleep-ins.

About the Role

We are looking for a compassionate, dedicated, and motivated Young People Support Worker to join our growing team in Cheltenham (GL51).

As a Young People Support Worker, you will provide high-quality support to young people aged 16+, empowering them to develop the confidence, resilience, and practical life skills needed to live independently and achieve positive outcomes.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a genuine difference in the lives of young people transitioning into adulthood. You will work alongside a supportive team to deliver person-centred care that meets Ofsted standards and promotes each young person's wellbeing, independence, and aspirations.

What You'll Be Doing Supporting Young People

-Build positive, trusting, and professional relationships with young people.

-Provide emotional support, guidance, and encouragement.

-Help young people overcome challenges and build resilience.

-Promote confidence, self-esteem, and personal development.

Promoting Independence

-Support young people in developing independent living skills including:

-Budgeting and money management

-Cooking and meal planning

-Cleaning and maintaining accommodation

-Personal care and hygiene

-Shopping and household management

-Encourage informed decision-making and personal responsibility.

Daily Living Support

-Assist with attending appointments, education, training, and employment opportunities.

-Support young people to access community resources and local services.

-Encourage healthy lifestyles and positive routines.

Safeguarding & Wellbeing

-Safeguard young people by identifying, reporting, and responding appropriately to concerns.

-Complete risk assessments and follow safety plans.

-Promote a safe, secure, and nurturing environment.

Care Planning & Record Keeping

-Contribute to person-centred support and pathway plans.

-Maintain accurate daily records, reports, and incident logs.

-Monitor progress and celebrate achievements.

Team Working

-Work collaboratively with colleagues, managers, social workers, and external professionals.

-Attend team meetings, supervision, and ongoing training.

-Share best practice and contribute to continuous service improvement.

Advocacy

-Promote the rights, choices, and voices of young people.

-Support access to advocacy services and information available to care leavers.

-Encourage participation in decisions affecting their future.

Positive Behaviour Support

-Role model positive behaviour and maintain professional boundaries.

-Help young people develop healthy coping strategies and conflict resolution skills.

-Encourage accountability in a supportive and respectful manner.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Able to remain calm under pressure

  • Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team

Essential Requirements

  • Experience supporting young people, care leavers, or vulnerable adults.
  • Good understanding of safeguarding principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and sleep-ins.
  • Right to work in the UK.

Desirable

  • Level 3 Diploma in Children and Young People's Workforce, Health & Social Care, or equivalent (or willingness to work towards).
  • Experience within supported accommodation, semi-independent living, or residential childcare.
  • Knowledge of Ofsted regulations and supported accommodation standards.
  • Full UK driving licence.
