Supervising Social Worker to join Devon County Council's
North & Mid Fostering Team.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a dedicated fostering service committed to supporting foster carers and ensuring children and young people experience safe, stable and nurturing placements. The team plays a vital role in providing supervision, guidance and support to foster carers while ensuring compliance with fostering regulations and best practice standards.
About the Role
As a Supervising Social Worker, you will work closely with foster carers across North & Mid Devon, promoting high-quality fostering practice and supporting carers to achieve the best possible outcomes for children in their care.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing supervision, support and professional advice to foster carers
- Conducting foster carer visits and statutory supervision
- Completing unannounced visits and annual foster carer reviews
- Undertaking quality assurance activities
- Supporting the recruitment, assessment and ongoing development of foster carers
- Assisting with the delivery of training for prospective and existing foster carers
- Ensuring compliance with National Minimum Standards for Fostering and Fostering Services (England) Regulations 2011
- Promoting permanence options and understanding of legal frameworks for children cared for within family and friendship networks
Requirements
- Social Work qualification
- Social Work England registration
- Right to Work in the UK
- Successful completion of ASYE
- Significant post-qualifying experience within Children's Social Care
- Experience within Fostering services or the ability to demonstrate highly transferable skills from a related children's social work setting
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Strong understanding of fostering legislation, regulations and safeguarding practice
- High-quality assessment, recording and planning skills
- Ability and willingness to work across the North & Mid Devon area
Working Arrangements
- Location: Taw View, North Walk, Barnstaple, EX31 1EE
- Hours: 37 hours per week
- Social Workers must be available to undertake visits and meet service requirements
- Occasional home working may be available and can be discussed at interview
