We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) to join a highly regarded Mental Health Service in the West Midlands. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified AMHP who is passionate about safeguarding individuals' rights, promoting recovery, and delivering high-quality statutory mental health interventions within a supportive and collaborative environment.
Working alongside health professionals, social care colleagues, emergency services, and community partners, you will play a pivotal role in supporting some of the most vulnerable individuals within the community.

The Role
As an AMHP, you will undertake statutory duties under the Mental Health Act and provide expert professional leadership in complex mental health situations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Undertaking Mental Health Act assessments and coordinating duties under the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended).
  • Making independent decisions regarding applications for detention where appropriate.
  • Ensuring the least restrictive and most appropriate interventions are considered at all times.
  • Working in partnership with individuals, families, carers, health professionals, and partner agencies.
  • Undertaking complex risk assessments and contributing to crisis intervention planning.
  • Providing advice and guidance on Mental Health Act legislation, policy, and practice.
  • Promoting recovery-focused, strengths-based, and person-centred approaches.
  • Maintaining accurate, comprehensive, and timely case records.
  • Participating in AMHP duty rotas, including evening, weekend, and emergency assessments where required.
  • Ensuring safeguarding responsibilities are met and that individuals' rights are upheld throughout the assessment process.

About You
We are looking for a skilled and resilient practitioner who can make sound professional judgments in complex and often challenging situations.

You will:

  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of mental health legislation and statutory frameworks.
  • Have excellent assessment, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Be confident working autonomously while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Build positive relationships with service users, carers, and partner agencies.
  • Remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations.
  • Be committed to delivering person-centred and rights-based practice.

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Social Worker, Mental Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist, or Chartered Psychologist.
  • Current professional registration (Social Work England, NMC, HCPC, or equivalent).
  • Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) qualification and current approval.
  • Significant post-qualification experience within mental health services.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of:
    • Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended)
    • Mental Capacity Act 2005
    • Care Act 2014
    • Human Rights Act
    • Safeguarding Adults legislation

Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975. As this role is eligible for an Enhanced DBS check, applicants are required to declare any cautions and convictions that are not protected under current filtering rules.

If you are an experienced Approved Mental Health Professional looking for your next opportunity in the West Midlands, we would love to hear from you.
