Laboratory Assistant x2
Location: Reading (RG6 6LA)
Rate: 17.59 per hour Umbrella (Inside IR35)
Contract: Intially Until 28th February 2027
Hours: 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm
We are currently recruiting for Laboratory Assistants to join a busy laboratory team in Reading. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with a scientific background who are looking to develop their laboratory experience within a well-established analytical environment.
The Role
Working as part of an efficient laboratory team, you will support routine testing and analytical activities, ensuring high standards of quality, accuracy and customer service are maintained at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine laboratory tasks and sample preparation under supervision.
- Operate and calibrate laboratory equipment as required.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and laboratory methodologies.
- Generate accurate and reliable analytical data.
- Record laboratory activities and results accurately.
- Analyse and evaluate test results, escalating issues where appropriate.
- Use laboratory systems including LIMS and other software packages.
- Support laboratory administration and housekeeping activities.
- Assist with training on routine laboratory activities.
- Work across different laboratory areas as required by business needs.
Health, Safety & Quality
- Follow all COSHH requirements, risk assessments and laboratory procedures.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
- Support quality and compliance activities in line with UKAS standards.
- Ensure training and quality records are maintained accurately.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A-Level, HNC or equivalent qualification in a relevant scientific discipline.
- Laboratory experience gained through education, placements or industry.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
- Good organisational and communication skills.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Experience using laboratory systems such as LIMS would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of UKAS, quality systems, SOPs or COSHH would be beneficial.
