Would you like a career where you can make a genuine difference to the emotional wellbeing and development of children every day? If you are naturally empathetic, patient and motivated to support children through emotional challenges, this Emotional and Mental Health Support Worker opportunity in Trowbridge could be an excellent next step.

A specialist school in Trowbridge, Wiltshire is looking for a dedicated Emotional and Mental Health Support Worker to join their supportive team. You will work directly with children aged 5-16 who may experience Autism, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, anxiety, trauma, emotional regulation difficulties and other additional needs.

This is a particularly rewarding opportunity for someone who wants to understand what sits behind a child's behaviour and emotional responses. Rather than simply responding to challenges, you will help children recognise their emotions, develop coping strategies, build resilience and feel more confident in their school environment.

As an Emotional and Mental Health Support Worker, you will provide individualised 1:1 and small-group support, working closely with teachers, pastoral staff and specialist professionals to create a calm, consistent and nurturing environment. Your support will help children overcome emotional barriers, develop positive relationships and engage more confidently with learning and daily school life.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group emotional wellbeing support to children.
  • Building consistent, trusting and positive relationships with children.
  • Helping children identify, communicate and understand their emotions.
  • Supporting children to develop healthy coping mechanisms and emotional regulation strategies.
  • Providing reassurance and guidance during periods of anxiety, distress or emotional dysregulation.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and helping children make constructive choices.
  • Supporting children to develop confidence, self-esteem and resilience.
  • Helping children re-engage with learning following periods of emotional difficulty.
  • Supporting social interaction and positive relationships with peers.
  • Identifying potential emotional triggers and sharing relevant observations with the wider support team.
  • Working alongside teachers, pastoral staff, SEN professionals and other specialists to provide consistent support.
  • Helping maintain a calm, structured and emotionally safe environment.#

What We Offer

This Emotional and Mental Health Support Worker role provides:

  • 85- 110 per day, depending on experience.
  • PAYE weekly pay.
  • Full-time, Monday-Friday opportunities.
  • September 2026 start.
  • A supportive specialist school environment in Trowbridge, Wiltshire.
  • Hands-on experience supporting children with Autism, SEMH, anxiety, trauma and additional needs.
  • Valuable experience for aspiring psychologists, counsellors, therapists, teachers and social workers.

Make a Difference to Children's Emotional Wellbeing

Working as an Emotional and Mental Health Support Worker means having the opportunity to become a consistent and trusted source of support for children who may find school, relationships and emotional regulation challenging.

You will help children recognise their strengths, understand their emotions and develop practical strategies that can support them both inside and outside the classroom. From helping a child manage anxiety to celebrating their growing confidence and independence, your support can have a meaningful impact.

Apply today for this Emotional and Mental Health Support Worker role in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, and begin building a rewarding career supporting children's mental health, emotional wellbeing and development.

Salary will be determined by the successful candidate's qualifications and relevant experience, and will be in accordance with the client's pay policy.
