About the RoleAn exciting opportunity has opened up for an experienced Children's Social Worker to join the Family Safeguarding Team covering Chorley and South Ribble.
This role focuses on working directly with children and their families using a strength-based, relational approach to address complex risks, keep families safely together where possible, and drive long-term positive outcomes.
Key ResponsibilitiesChild Protection & Safeguarding: Manage a caseload of children and families subject to Child Protection plans, Children in Need, and care proceedings.
Direct Relational Practice: Work alongside parents and carers using trauma-informed and strength-based methodologies to support sustained family change.
Multi-Agency Integration: Collaborate with multi-disciplinary specialists (such as adult mental health workers, substance misuse specialists, and domestic abuse practitioners) within the Family Safeguarding model.
Assessments & Planning: Complete high-quality, analytical assessments and construct robust, child-centered care plans.
Court Work: Prepare timely reports and represent the authority in court proceedings when required.
Qualifications: Recognized Social Work qualification (BA/BSc/MSc in Social Work or DipSW).
Registration: Active registration with Social Work England (SWE).
Experience: Proven post-qualifying experience within statutory Children's Social Care (specifically Safeguarding, Child Protection, or Family Support teams).
Skills: Strong analytical assessment skills, excellent communication, and the ability to manage complex cases effectively.

We are seeking an experienced Social Worker to join the Family Safeguarding Team within City Family Support and Safeguarding.
This is a specialist role requiring candidates with previous experience working within a Family Safeguarding Teamand strong court experience. The successful candidate will be confident managing complex safeguarding cases, assessing risk and progressing cases through Child in Need, Child Protection and Care Proceedings.
Key ResponsibilitiesComplete statutory visits for Child in Need (CIN), Child Protection (CP) and Children in Care (CIC) cases.
Manage an allocated caseload of CIN, CP and CIC cases.
Manage complex cases that may progress through Public Law Outline (PLO) or Section 31 Care Proceedings.
Chair CIN and Core Group meetings.
Complete high-quality court reports, risk assessments and parenting assessments.
Attend Court hearings, with support from a Senior Practitioner or Team Manager where required.
Attend Initial Child Protection Conferences (ICPCs) and Review Child Protection Conferences (RCPCs).
Prepare and write high-quality conference reports.
Assess and manage safeguarding risks effectively.
Participate in the duty rota and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns.
Work collaboratively with children, families and multi-agency professionals.
Maintain accurate and timely case records in accordance with statutory and organisational requirements.
Ensure children's wishes, feelings and lived experiences remain central to all assessments and interventions.
Please note these are essential requirements for the role:
Qualified Social Worker with relevant professional registration.
Previous experience working within a Family Safeguarding Team ESSENTIAL.
Strong and demonstrable Court experience ESSENTIAL.
Experience working with CIN, CP and CIC cases.
Experience with PLO and Section 31 Care Proceedings.
Proven experience completing court reports, risk assessments and parenting assessments.
Experience attending and contributing to Court hearings.
Strong safeguarding and risk management experience.
Experience chairing CIN and Core Group meetings.
Experience attending ICPCs and RCPCs and completing conference reports.
Ability to manage a complex caseload independently.
Enhanced DBS clearance or willingness to obtain one.
