At Hamberley, we believe that our residents deserve something 'Extra Special, Every Day'. And at the heart of this model are our Homemakers Leads - Senior care assistants with a difference. A Homemaker is a unique caring role for a unique person, where you can care with a difference.
  • A varied role where no two days are the same. we care for individual people in the way a family member might care for someone in their home. We don't do timetabled task-based care - we care for each individual in the way that works best for them. Whether that's administering medication, helping make someone's bed, arranging a family meal with their loved ones or taking them to the beauty salon, you'll always be doing something different. Our Homemakers focus on the tiny details that make our residents unique, and tailor care to each and every individual.
  • A chance to make a real difference to our residents' lives. Often healthcare assistants, care assistants and domiciliary care assistants find they don't get to spend enough time with the people they care for to make a real difference. Not at Hamberley. As a Homemaker you have fewer people to care for, but you spend more time with them. It's a more satisfying and fulfilling role that is better for our residents. That's why the model has won awards.
  • Supportive team environment. Being kind and supportive to each other is key to our ability to show kindness and companionship to our residents. We truly believe this across all parts of our organisation. It's just one of the reasons that, when people join us, they stay with us.

    Senior Care Assistant

    Derby

    Permanent £12.71 - £16.00 Hour

Lavender Lodge is a CQC-regulated nursing home on a deliberate journey of cultural and quality transformation. We are raising our standards not just in documentation and clinical competency, but in the energy, warmth, and professionalism that define daily life for our residents.

As Senior Carer, you will be a critical part of makingthat happen. You are not just a shift leader you are a standard-setter, a culture carrier, and one of the first people our residents and families turn to.

    Job Opportunity

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leading and supervising the care team during your shift, acting as first point of contact and escalating

concerns to the Nurse in Charge.

Setting the tone for the shift - modelling the energy, warmth, and professionalism you expect from the team

    around you.

Delivering and overseeing high-quality personal care: washing, dressing, toileting, and mobility support.

Administering and recording medications in accordance with company policy and CQC standards (where

    competency-assessed).

Completing, reviewing, and updating care plans and risk assessments using our PCS care system, ensuring

    accuracy and clinical relevance.

Spot-checking your team's documentation and coaching improvement - not just completing your own

    records.

Supporting residents with nutrition and mealtimes - ensuring these are social, dignified occasions, not

    rushed routines.

Mentoring junior care staff: conducting supervisions, supporting inductions, and identifying development

    needs.

Building positive professional relationships with residents, families, and the multidisciplinary team.

Championing person-centred care - knowing your residents as individuals, not as tasks on a rota.

Supporting residents receiving end-of-life care with clinical competence and deep human compassion.

Contributing to audits, quality improvement, and CQC compliance activities.

WHAT GOOD LEADERSHIP LOOKS LIKE HERE

A great Senior Carer at Lavender Lodge does not just manage a shift - they shape it. They walk onto the floor

and the energy shifts. Residents feel it. Junior staff feel it. A high-performing Senior Carer holds people to

account with kindness; challenges poor practice without humiliating; and consistently asks: "Is this the best we

can do for this person today?" They understand that documentation is protection - for the resident, the team,

and the organisation - and they treat it with the same care they bring to hands-on work.

    COMPLIANCE & STANDARDS

Adhere to Health & Safety regulations and all company policies.

Follow safeguarding procedures and maintain resident confidentiality (Care Act 2014 / GDPR).

Comply with CQC Single Assessment Framework standards, infection control guidelines, and medication

    management policies.

Complete all mandatory training and continuous professional development as required.

Report safeguarding concerns, incidents, or changes in resident health promptly and per company procedure.

As a Senior Care Assistant at Lavender Lodge, you will play a key role in supporting residents and ensuring their wellbeing. Working as part of a caring team, you will help deliver high standards of personal care, encourage independence, and maintain a safe and comfortable environment. You will also support and mentor junior staff, helping to ensure best practice across the home. Your duties will include assisting with daily routines, administering medication, updating care records, and liaising with families and health professionals. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys building relationships and making a positive impact.

    Essential Skills

    ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Minimum 2 years' experience in a care setting, ideally nursing or residential.

NVQ / QCF Level 3 in Health and Social Care (Adults) - or actively working towards it.

Proven ability to lead, motivate, and hold a team accountable during a shift.

Medication administration competency (or willingness and eligibility to complete training).

Excellent communication and documentation skills; experience with digital care recording.

Experience with or willingness to learn the PCS care system.

A naturally sociable, engaged, and positive personality - you enjoy people and it shows.

Ability to work flexibly, including weekends and shift patterns.

Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the DBS Update Service.

Right to work in the UK.Previous experience in a care or support role, ideally within a residential setting

We want leaders who lead with warmth not just authority.

Technical competence is a given. What sets our Senior Carers apart is their character. We want people

who bring genuine energy to every shift: who are chatty with residents, fun with colleagues, and firm when

it matters. People who do not clock-watch; who notice the resident sitting alone at the window and do

    something about it.

If you are the kind of person who naturally takes ownership, who raises standards without being asked,

and who believes that a well-run shift should also be a joyful one.

Could you be part of our team?

You may have experience as a senior healthcare assistant, healthcare assistant, care assistant, carer, home care assistant or domiciliary care assistant and are looking for a different approach, a nicer work environment and a more satisfying role.

We are looking for applicants with:
        • A strong background in a care working in a similar environment.
        • Training experience or qualification.
        • Educated to NVQ Level 3 (desirable).
If this sounds like you and you're looking for a fulfilling role that makes a genuine impact in the lives of others, this rewarding career is for you.

Due to the high level of interest we anticipate for this role, we may close this advert earlier than the stated closing date to manage applications effectively. If you're interested in joining us at Hamberley, we encourage you to apply as soon as possible.
