Flexible shift patterns, including evenings, weekends, bank holidays and sleeping nights.

Job Purpose

As a Residential Support Worker, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care and support to children and young people living in our residential home in Bootle. You will help create a safe, nurturing and stable environment where young people can develop confidence, resilience and independence.

This role is about more than providing care-it is about becoming a positive, reliable role model who builds trusting relationships and supports children and young people to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Care and Support

Provide high-quality, child-centred care in accordance with each young person's individual care plan.
Build positive, trusting relationships with children and young people.
Promote emotional wellbeing through consistent support, encouragement and positive role modelling.
Help young people feel safe, respected and valued within the home.

Daily Living

Support young people with daily routines, including personal care where appropriate.
Encourage participation in education, training and employment.
Assist with appointments, activities and community engagement.
Promote healthy lifestyles, positive routines and good decision-making.

Independence and Development

Support children and young people to develop life skills, including budgeting, cooking, personal hygiene and household responsibilities.
Encourage independence appropriate to age and ability.
Celebrate achievements and support young people to reach their personal goals.

Safeguarding

Maintain the safety and welfare of all children and young people.
Follow safeguarding policies and procedures at all times.
Report concerns promptly and accurately.
Support behaviour management through positive, trauma-informed approaches.

Record Keeping

Complete accurate daily records, incident reports and care documentation.
Contribute to care planning and review meetings.
Maintain confidentiality in line with GDPR and organisational policies.

Teamwork

Work collaboratively with colleagues, families and external professionals.
Attend team meetings, supervision sessions and mandatory training.
Contribute to maintaining a positive, supportive team culture.

Person Specification

Essential

Genuine passion for improving the lives of children and young people.
Caring, resilient and compassionate nature.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work flexibly across shifts, weekends and sleeping nights.
Full UK Driving Licence.
Ability to work as part of a team and independently when required.
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Desirable

Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
Previous experience working with children and young people in residential care, education or support settings.
Understanding of trauma-informed practice and positive behaviour support.
Training and Development

If you do not already hold a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare, we will fully fund and support you to achieve this qualification.

You will also receive ongoing professional development, mandatory training and regular supervision to help you build a rewarding career in children's residential care.
