Location: Newton Abbot, DevonSalary: £50,000 - £60,000 per annum DOEHours: Permanent - Full-time, 9.00am to 5.00pm with flexibility around the needs of the home

The Opportunity

We have a fantastic opportunity to join a brand-new children's home in Newton Abbot as a Registered Manager. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced children's care professional to join at the very beginning of the journey and play a key role in shaping the culture, values and standards of the service from day one.

The Company

Our client is opening a brand-new children's home in Newton Abbot and is looking to appoint an experienced Children's Home Registered Manager to lead the service from the very beginning.

This is an exciting opportunity to join at the start of a new venture and have genuine input into the development of the home, supporting with the setup, establishing high standards of care and creating a positive environment for children in care and staff.

As the first person to join the service, you will have the autonomy and support to shape the home's culture, values and processes, ensuring safeguarding, compliance and outstanding care are embedded from the outset.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take overall responsibility for the effective day-to-day management and operation of the children's home in line with Children's Homes Regulations, Ofsted requirements and safeguarding legislation.
  • Support with the setup and development of the new service, including establishing operational standards, sourcing resources and preparing the home for opening.
  • Ensure the welfare, safety and development of children living in the home remains at the heart of everything the service delivers.
  • Lead, motivate, coach and develop a team of approximately 12 residential care staff, including managing supervision, training and performance.
  • Ensure the home meets all regulatory requirements, contractual obligations and quality standards, preparing for Ofsted inspections and driving continuous improvement.
  • Build strong relationships with social workers, local authorities, families and external professionals to ensure children receive the best possible support.
  • Support with budget management and ensure resources are used effectively to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Promote a strong health and safety culture, ensuring a safe environment for both children and staff.

Skills, Experience & Knowledge Requirements:

  • A Social Work qualification, QCF Level 5 qualification, or currently working towards this.
  • Level 3 Children's Workforce Diploma (or equivalent) is desirable.
  • Level 5 Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare qualification, or willingness to enrol.
  • Minimum of 2 years residential childcare experience, with previous supervisory or management experience within a care environment.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, Children's Homes Regulations, Ofsted requirements and best practice within residential childcare.
  • Experience leading, supporting and developing teams with excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • A passionate and driven individual who is committed to improving outcomes for children in care and creating a positive, supportive home environment.
  • Full UK driving licence is essential.

Applications will also be considered from qualified Social Workers who have experience working within a management role and are currently working towards their Level 5 Leadership and Management qualification.

  • Competitive salary package of £50,000 - £60,000 per annum depending on experience.
