Start Date: 1st September 2026

TimePlan Education are working with an alternative education provider to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced Education Support Worker to join their team in a permanent role, providing crucial support and tutoring for secondary-aged pupils within an alternative education setting. The organisation operates across four SEN schools in Devon, and this role will be based mainly in Totnes with occasional travel to Newton Abbot. The position involves supporting pupils with a range of needs, including ASC, ADHD, and SEMH.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional 1:1 support and supervision to pupils aged 7-16, encouraging their engagement and progress in learning.
  • Plan, deliver, and evidence individual learning programmes for pupils, either 1:1 or in small groups, tailoring strategies to individual needs.
  • Support vulnerable young people in improving their emotional well-being, raising aspirations, and achieving their full potential.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, acting as a positive role model and fostering an environment of respect and positivity.
  • Encourage the development of strategies to manage behaviour, anger, and frustration, promoting independence and self-esteem.
  • Maintain accurate records of pupil progress, attend multi-agency meetings when required, and contribute to relevant paperwork, including observations, risk assessments, and learning plans.
  • Transport pupils between schools for activities, using your own insured vehicle (business insurance required).
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of pupils, ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals at all times.
  • Work collaboratively with the team, attending meetings and contributing positively to the school's ongoing development and improvement.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Previous experience supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs, particularly those with ASC, ADHD, and SEMH.
  • Full driving licence, own vehicle, and business insurance, as occasional travel between schools is required.
  • A compassionate, resilient, and positive attitude towards supporting young people in an educational environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, fostering a positive and professional work culture.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and the importance of confidentiality in an educational setting.

Professional Characteristics:

  • Inspire confidence in pupils and colleagues, building positive relationships within the school community.
  • Maintain high expectations for all pupils, striving to help them achieve their potential.
  • Model professional conduct and presentation, contributing to a respectful and supportive school environment.
  • Adhere to school policies and procedures at all times, ensuring compliance with safeguarding, risk assessment, and health and safety regulations.

This is a full-time, permanent position offering an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of vulnerable young people within an alternative education setting. If you are passionate about supporting students with SEN and are looking for a rewarding role in a supportive team, we would love to hear from you.
